Five must have gadgets that all kitchens in Adelaide

Most renovated kitchens in Adelaide feel like they’re missing something. While much attention has been given to the flooring, benchstops and cupboards, usually not a lot thought has been put into what is actually stored within it. Funnily enough, we favourite part of the kitchen renovations process was selecting the cool gadgets that really made my kitchen stand out and the cooking process a lot more enjoyable. Below are five items that I believe will inject fun, personality and functionality into your kitchen.

Cute Cheese Knifes

When you think cheese platters, you normally thing classy nights surrounded by friends with a good bottle of wine. Generally, most of us don’t treat ourselves to delicious cheese platters on a regular basis and instead create one for a special gathering. For that very reason, it is vital you have some classy cheese knifes that match your sumptuous selection of tasty cheese. Try going for something a bit out of the ordinary. There are many funky designs out there that are sure to excite your friends.

Funky Tea Infusers

There’s nothing better than sipping at a hot tea on a cold winter night. Recently I have been experimenting with different flavours of tea and have been loving the results. With herbal tea a much healthier substitute than coffee, a lot of my friends have been jumping on the tea bandwagon. When I was at my best friend’s house one night, she offered me a soothing peppermint tea and presented me with a mug featuring the cutest rubber ducky tea infuser. My face light up and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it bob up and down in my cup as I let it cool. If you are a tea fanatic like me and want to liven up a regular cuppa, try a cute tea infuser. There are a range of different designs around the place that you are sure to love.

Decorative Measuring Cups
On the weekend I came across the most delightful measuring cups. At first glance, I really didn’t know what they were. The ceramic measuring cups were fashion into a stunning yellow lemon and I first thought it was just a decorative ornament. While at the moment I have a crazy obsession for pineapples, I thought the lemon ornament may go nicely with my fruity kitchen theme. However, when I picked the lemon up I noticed that the top and bottom came apart and inside, just like a babushka doll were lemon shaped cups. The set was actually measuring cups that were extremely gorgeous. I quickly discovered that there were many other design alternatives that would suit a range of different tastes.

Novelty Cheese Graters
Cheese grating is a task often downgraded to the sous chef of the kitchen. It can be laborious at times, making a lot of us cave in to laziness and buy those bags of pre-grated cheese. If you’re like me and don’t like the sometimes plastic tang that pre-grated cheese has, then grating is the only option. In order to make the process a whole lot more fun, try buying a novelty cheese grater. My favourite is a hedgehog grater. The hedge hog is arched over, with holes on his back to grate the cheese through. Not only is it super cute, but it is very functional.

Gadget Protectors
These days I find all my recipes on the Internet using my iPad. While I do splash out and buy Nigella Lawson’s cookbooks when they are released, thanks to a tonne of amazing bloggers out there I find a bunch of cool recipes online. Plus, the recipes are just at my fingerprints, with no need to print out. However, while finding the recipes is easy, the one problem I do have is using my iPad to read further steps, especially when my hands are dirty or wet. This all changed when I stumbled across the new iPad mini screen protector. The cool gadget allows you to prop up your iPad so you can read and navigate through your recipes with ease.

The precious kitchen ideas to make your kitchen Perfect

If you are renovating your kitchen, the kitchen designers from ABJ Kitchens have so clever kitchen renovations ideas for you. It is easy to get swept away in the excitement of renovation, which can result in you getting a kitchen that doesn’t suit your needs. Rather than focusing on the interior and decorations, it’s extremely important to ensure you get the basics right first. The team at ABJ Kitchens have outlined three important aspects to consider.

Big is not always better

It’s easy to get tempted by the allure of extra space. After enduring a small kitchen for years, it’s understandable for renovators to want to spread out when cooking. However, big does not always equate to better. Whilst a big kitchen provides you with amazing storage space and ample workspaces, it is also much more difficult to clean. With more floor space, cupboards, benches, there are more surfaces to wipe down and keep sparkling clean.

Furthermore, it can also be difficult to cook in a large kitchen. By the end of a cooking session, you could have sore legs from racing back and forth from the pantry, to the sink, to the stove. There’s nothing worse than having tired legs whilst you’re cooking dinner.

Unfortunately, size and efficiency do not always go hand in hand. It is important to keep in mind with any kitchen design to follow the practical u-shape or l-shape design. These designs ensure everything you need is in a good spacing of one and another, making cooking much more efficient.

When working out the optimum space for your kitchen layout try this simple rule. Adopt the U shape design and step out three big steps in each direction. This will be more than enough room to reach and bend in the kitchen, allowing you to open and close cupboards and fridges with ease.

Effective bench space works wonders

Any cook will tell you, you can never get enough bench space. Whenever you question any Kitchen Renovation they will tell you that the most desirable kitchen feature is bench space. In a perfect world, a kitchen should have two benches. One should be used for serving food and the other for preparing meals. Be sure not to be stingy when it comes to square metres.

You don’t want to end up being squished every night because you didn’t give yourself that extra square metre of bench space. Anything less than four square metres of bench space, which includes the hot plates and sink, is just not enough. We recommend thinking about the depth of the hot plats as well. If you do a lot of wok inspired cooking or like to use a lot of big and bulky pots, ensure your bench has a depth of around 600-650 mm. This depth will also ensure your dishwasher sits perfectly in line with the rest of your cupboards.

Open up to make more space

These days it’s all about open-plan living. While you may be tempted to keep your kitchen boxed up so your guests don’t first hand see your mess, don’t be silly. An open plan kitchen creates light and space that will make your kitchen and home seem so much bigger. It will also enhance socializing, allowing you to speak to your guests whilst cooking. If you currently are thinking about renovating your kitchen, ensure your renovating professionals take a look at the walls, to determine which ones are load bearing. By breaking through and removing the non-load bearing walls, you will perfect the open-plan living.

Ideas for Kitchen Renovations in Adelaide

Kitchen Adelaide

Are you thinking about remodeling your kitchen in Adelaide but don’t have the money? Kitchens are one of the most expensive rooms in Adelaide homes to renovate, with costly items like tiles, granite and appliances breaking the budget. However, if you put a lot of thought and effort into the design, it doesn’t have to be.

Paint

Is your kitchen paying homage to the 80s? Is there food splatter stained on the walls that looks dreadful? Do the dull colours make cooking drab? If you hate the colour of your kitchen, a re-paint is a cheap way to add some life back to your kitchen. It’s amazing what a few licks of paint can do to revitalize a space. Selecting a neural colour palette is the smartest colour choice, as it enhances sales potential. That way, if you want to add a splash of colour, you can simple add some bold, coloured accessories or curtains for some excitement.

Cabinets

Kitchen cabinets are a massive feature of a kitchen and can change the whole look completely. If the base of your kitchen cabinets is still in good working condition, however, the doors are looking old, try removing them all together. That way, you can display your new hardware. It also makes grabbing appliances and crockery much easier. However, if you’re the type that likes hiding your kitchenware behind cupboards, why not replace your old doors with premade cabinet doors and give them a coat of paint. For wooden cabinet doors, you can also try staining them. Dark wood is a look that is very in at the moment, so try a dark teak or cheery stain, to freshen up your kitchen. For a professional look, strip and sand the cabients before painting and polishing.

Hardware

Simply updating the hardware in your kitchen can completely transform the look. Some old fashion kitchens show their age by the hideous door handles. If your kitchen has old handles that gives away the era it was designed, try replaced with brushed nickel or pewter knob. This modern style will strip years of your kitchen and make it look great.

Countertops

If your kitchen countertop is looking worse for ware, a new countertop can transform the look of your kitchen. Many home improvement shops have precut countertops available that are very cost effective. Look out for sales and you might be able to nab your preferred colour and style for a cheap price.

Floor

New timber flooring and tiles can cost you a lot. If you like the look of this high end style but want to pay a fraction of the cost, press and stick vinyl is the flooring choice for you. Many people don’t even realise these styles are made from vinyl. You can achieve a high end look for a very reasonable price.

Appliances

Have you every thought of painting your appliances? Your appliances may be in perfect working condition but don’t reflect the image you like. A quick and easy coat of paint will revitalize them and give them a fun new look. If you’re not good at painting but want to try out the idea, ask your automobile paint shop to paint them for you. They will be more than happy to oblige and it will dramatically be cheaper than buying new appliances.

So, there you have it kitchen renovations on a budget. If you are serious about sprucing up your kitchen, talk the professionals at ABJ Kitchens in Adelaide. They will help you stick to your budget and provide you with Some Amazing Kitchen ideas in Adelaide.

What’s Hot In Kitchens In Adelaide – The Trends Of 2014

For many homeowners in Adelaide, kitchens are the heart of the home. They are often a hub of activity and the place where the family flocks after a busy day. From cooking, to clean, to socializing, the kitchen is always a hive of activity.

When it comes time to redo your kitchen, the renovation process should not be taken lightly. Much thought and consideration needs to be invested to ensure your kitchen looks and functions the way you want it.

For many people, the look of the kitchen is paramount. This is why the experts at ABJ Kitchens has shared the top kitchen trends of 2014.

The Grey Revolution

The colour white has often held the top spot in preference to kitchen designers, however, this year it looks like it’s going to be knocked off the top spot. Grey is soon to be the colour that everyone is talking about. Rather than staying safe and painting your cabinets white, the new trend is all about grey.

Enhanced Functionality

In new kitchens it’s all about the functionality. In this technological day and age, it appears everything is getting easier for us. Kitchen cabinets are now no different, with the trend moving towards drawers and doors that open and close with ease. Popular hardware manufacturers are creating hydraulic drawers and doors that at the touch of a button open and fold up out the way. These types of new doors are the perfect addition to a small kitchen as they utilise space.

Black And White

The black and white palette is a timeless look that never looks like it will fade from popularity. While its application changes and evolves, it is one trend that is likely to continue. This time around in 2014, black and white is all about creating a dramatic contrast.

Everything, Including The Kitchen Sink

Kitchens appear to be moving away from the tradition yet often predictable basic white or stainless steel sink. The sink is now a point that designers can utilise to inject some colour into a kitchen. Try fun and vibrant colours to make your new sink a feature. You could even match it with the splash back.

Make a Statement With Bold Fixtures

In 2014, kitchens are all about bold fixtures and making a statement. Shying away from subtle, neutral designs, the trend for kitchens is all about creating a “wow factor”. Oversized lighting fixtures are becoming a must have addition to kitchen. In previous years we have seen lighting hidden in the form of downlights, however, now they are bold and in your face.

Kitchen Storage

No matter how big your kitchen is, storage is always a big issue. You can never have enough storage in a kitchen, which is why popular hardware manufacturers are giving us a two for one deal. The new trend is to double on storage, with cupboards featuring ingenious multi-layered draws that are excellent to store all your kitchen supplies. This new trend is a god send for those living in cramped apartments.

Technological Advancements

The technology being incorporated into kitchens is absolutely amazing. There are spellbinding features that you can only dream about that can be included into your kitchen today. One great feature that is sure to spring up across kitchens is the hands-free faucet. Another impressive feature that will have foodies in a spin is meat thermometers that alerts you via smartphone when your meat is cooked. One of my personal favourite additions is the sensor-activated lights. These lights burst on when the kitchen is in use and politely turn off when nobody is in there.

Base Your Kitchen Renovations Ideas Around The Design And Layout

Have you been brainstorming kitchen renovation ideas but have found yourself stuck? The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in your home and is often referred to as the heart of the home. Therefore, when you are planning to renovate your kitchen much thought and planning is required. The kitchen professionals at ABJ Kitchens in Adelaide have shared some tips to follow when it comes to the design and layout of your kitchen.

Design

The first step to renovating your kitchen is deciding upon the design and layout. While you may desperately want a new kitchen, before you begin renovating, you must ask yourself what impression do you want your kitchen to make? It may be that you want it to be bold and be a showcase feature of your home. Alternatively, you may focus on its functionality and require it to be a vital working feature of your home. Whatever it is, the option is all yours.

Once you decide upon the impression you want to make, the next step is deciding upon the vibe you would like to create. Some people love the feel an open-plan kitchen creates, as it draws people around to share food and be social. Whereas, diversely some people like to keep their kitchen (and mess) under wraps in an enclosed kitchen.

The atmosphere is another significant aspect you must consider. If you want to make a homely and comfortable environment, earthy tones and timber are a must. However, for a bold statement that screams style, choose statement items and bright, modern colours. Conversely, if you are renovating your kitchen in a bid to add value your home for then stick to safe, neutral colours that appeal to a wide range of potential buyers.

Lastly, consider the activities other than cooking that you perform in the kitchen, If your kids like to sit at the kitchen table to do their homework, you should bare this in mind when designing your new kitchen. Furthermore, if you like to entertain whilst cooking, you could accommodate for visitors with stools.

  Layout

The basic rule of an efficient kitchen layout is the “working triangle”. This design technique is based around the three main features of your kitchen, which are the fridge, stove and sink. In order for a kitchen to be successfully laid out, it is important to place these elements within a comfortable distance on each other. By placing them too far apart, you will find your cooking time interrupted by a lot of walking around. Conversely, if you place them too close you will not have enough workspace to cook. The goal distance is no more than 8 metres of distance between the three features.

There are three common types of kitchen layouts that people choice. The first is the l-shaped  kitchen, which can work in both a small or large kitchen. This kitchen layout accommodates for two people working in the kitchen at once with large areas of workplace and storage. Within a large kitchen, you can complement this type of l-shape layout with a dinning table or an island.

If you are working within a small area the single line kitchen layout is ideal. In terms of making food preparation easier, it’s essential to extend the space between the sink and the stove. Yet, it is vital you do not have the working bench too long, as it will make the “working triangle” inefficient. If you do have a long room to work with, the addition of an island can eliminate the problem and make the kitchen more workable.

The perfect kitchen layout that most people desire is the u-shaped kitchen. It is the best way to have an effective “working triangle”, as it allows the three main features to be spread evenly, maximizing working space. This kitchen layouts works best in large kitchens and is popular because it allows two people to cook at the same time.

Tricks Of The Trade To Keep Your Kitchen In Adelaide Looking Beautiful

Kitchens are used every single day so they need to be utilitarian, but also look good as they are often the main focus or largest room in the house. People across Adelaide are preparing meals, cleaning and attending to other household duties in the kitchen. If the kitchen were a street, it would be the freeway of the house. Constantly bustling with people coming in and going out. Did you know there are some great tips on everyday cooking and kitchen maintenance , which are so easy, and simple, yet a great help? Many people think they may know all the tricks to the trade, but here are some tip we have fished out that have seemed to go under the radar:

Ever get annoyed at how bacon curls when you start to cook it, preventing you from an even, crispy finish? Well the solution lies in placing it on top of baking paper, with the bacon pieces touching if they must, but ensure they do not overlap. Bake the pieces between 180-200 degrees for 20-30 minutes. Crispy bacon and no greasy splatter across your kitchen either!

We've all heard of various ways to stop from getting teary eyes when you are cutting onions. Short of wearing goggles, there aren't many that seem to work, however try your luck by placing the onion in your freeze for a couple of minutes or even running it under cold water.

Now that you've cut the onions, what are you meant to do with stink left on your hands? Some people suggest rubbing your hands on the stainless steel of your kitchen sink, others suggest using a little bit of lemon juice. Try out both and see which works best for you!If your kitchen has a garbage disposal, not only are you lucky to have such an efficient and utilitarian kitchen design, but you may also wonder how to keep the blades sharp. The answer lies in ice cubes which sharpen garbage disposal blades.

Ever in a hurry to get your kitchen cleaning done? Of course you are! Everyone is. That's why sometimes we make annoying little mistakes, like getting glasses stuck together by stacking them on top of each other. The solution to this is simple, fill the glass at the top with cold water and then set them both in hot water. They should come unstuck with a gentle pull! Fish is a very healthy food option for you and your family and friends, however cleaning fresh fish can be a big pain.
Try rubbing vinegar on the scales of the fish before you begin scaling it to make it easier for yourself.  To stop the pain of having to clean oil off of your splash back or around your stove, try throwing a little salt or flower into the pan that you are using to deep fry your food with. These are just a few household, and Specifically Kitchen Tips that can make your time in the kitchen easier, stress free and generally more pleasant. However, there is even more you can do to further your kitchen design to ensure you are making it as user friendly as possible.

Kitchen Renovation Tips in Adelaide

Renovating a kitchen whilst living a busy life in Adelaide is hard work. Kitchens are considered the   heart of the home for many reasons; one is because it is literally located in the heart of the home.   This can therefore cause havoc when one is trying to Renovate or Redecorate a kitchen. The great   positives that come with the final result, however, are endless and the creation of a new kitchen can   create a great sense of harmony in your house. There are many things to consider when designing   a kitchen, as you want to do the best you can in not only making it look good, but also making   the most of your space. There are a few a sic principals you can follow in order to maximise your   kitchen area.

The first is what can be known as ‘Cabinet Efficiency’. When redesigning your kitchen, you have   the opportunity to remove a great mess of clutter, which has left you feeling hopeless. You can gain   more space by determining the best cabinets for your space. For houses which have many corners,   the best cabinets to use are known as Lazy Susans as they are much more effective for storage than   cabinets with fixed shelves. A corner cabinet can be used at its filled advantage by the use of Lazy   Susans and diagonal doors.

Another way to optimise the space in your kitchen whilst deciding on its design is by choosing a   good spot for your refrigerator, or put simply ‘Refrigerator Placement’. By choosing the spot which   is just right for your refrigerator, you can maximise your cooking preparation time by making the   use of your time more efficient, which is at the top of your priorities when renovating your kitchen.   The perfect spot for a refrigerator is usually considered to be close enough to the sink that you are   able to reach into it from that spot. It will be a further great use of time and space, if you purchase a   fridge, which has a door that opens in the direction that allows you to do this, or alternatively to buy   a fridge which has interchangeable hinges.

These are just two of the considerations that go into creating a great kitchen design for your home.   Needless to say, it can be an overwhelming situation. Living in Adelaide, Australia, we are lucky   enough to have many houses with much space due to all the land we have to cover here. However in   many cities across Asia and Europe are not so lucky, and many families live in smaller apartments   compared to our large homes with decent back yards to match.
